Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s four-day official visit to America has ended. Modi has been warmly welcomed in America. This is the first time in Modi’s 9-year tenure that he has been invited by the US President for a state visit. Modi’s four-day US visit has proved to be an excellent example of the strong ties between India and the US. On June 22, PM Modi also addressed the joint session of the Congress of America. where his speech was highly praised.
However, such an opportunity has been given to other Prime Ministers even before PM Modi. But the difference in all this is that PM Modi has received such an honor for the second time. Earlier also he went on a government trip to America. And addressed the US Parliament.
PM Modi’s predecessors include former British PM Winston Churchill, former South African President Nelson Mandela and Israeli PMs Benjamin Netanyahu and Yitzhak Rabin. Winston Churchill addressed the US Congress three times. Churchill addressed the US Congress in 1941, 1943 and 1952. Netanyahu has addressed the US Congress three times and Yitzhak Rabin twice. PM Modi’s US visit will be memorable to give a new identity to the relations between India and America.
Churchill is considered a hero of World War II. In the early 1940s when the whole of Europe surrendered to the German dictator Adolf Hitler’s army, British PM Winston Churchill did not give up and showed courage to fight against Germany and eventually Germany won. It is believed that if not for Churchill, Hitler would have changed the map of the world forever.
Also, the great leader of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, will always be remembered for his fight against apartheid. Nelson Mandela, who addressed a joint session of the US Congress twice in 1990 and 1994, was imprisoned for 27 years by the apartheid government of South Africa, but eventually succeeded in ending apartheid in his country.
Like two such big leaders of the world, now PM Modi of India has also addressed the US Congress for the second time. America has accepted Modi as a great leader of the world. The thing to note here is that this is the same America that did not even give Narendra Modi a visa to come to America for many years. And today the red carpet is laid in honor of PM Modi.
Perhaps now America is fully aware of the popularity of PM Narendra Modi. Even before this, five Indian PMs have addressed the US Congress. The country’s first PM Jawaharlal Nehru, Rajiv Gandhi, PV Narasimha Rao, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh have got this opportunity once each, but by inviting Modi again to address the US Congress, America has proved that ‘Modi is a brand’.
Global media also focused on PM Modi’s visit. According to the news of ‘The Washington Post’, the American legislators gave PM Modi a warm welcome in the House and when PM Modi walked towards the stage, some people in the gallery started chanting his name, many MPs queued up to shake hands with him.
The Style section of the Washington Post also carried a half-page photo of Prime Minister Modi standing with President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden at a lavish state dinner at the White House.
So the photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeting the legislators with ‘Namaste’ during his address to the US Congress has appeared on the front page of ‘The New York Times’.
